Since Phil Jackson left town, or maybe even when the Zen Master was here, many Bulls fans pined for Jerry Sloan to come back to his home state and the team that made him famous as a player.
Now, as the Bulls look for their seventh head coach (remember Bill Berry?) since Phil left in '98, some may look longingly again out West as Sloan's Utah Jazz make another extended postseason run. (Never mind that Sloan was fired as Bulls coach in '82.)
Well, I do have good news. The next Bulls coach is in Utah. It's just not Sloan. It's DePaul alumnus Tyrone Corbin. He's young for a coach, but two years under Sloan is good enough for me. And, he was a finalist for the Seattle job last season. He played in over 1,000 NBA games too, so he knows the game and the players.
He earned his stripes in the paint during a time when there were legit big men in the league -- that type of experience will help Joakim Noah, Aaron Gray and Tyrus Thomas.
Plus, he'll bring that defensive, hard-working mindset to the team that general manager John Paxson covets.
It's not a "sexy" hire, but it'll be a good basketball decision, which is something the Bulls need more than anything.
